Shereen M. Burton, D.V.M., M.S. Honored for Excellence in Veterinary Medicine
Dr. Shereen Burton's career path was influenced by a lifelong love of animals

LAS VEGAS, NV, September 01, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Shereen M. Burton, Veterinarian for The Animal Foundation, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in veterinary medicine.

Each year, The Animal Foundation becomes a new home to more than 50,000 destitute animals. The largest animal refuge in the state of Nevada and one of the most active centers in the country, it receives its charges from both the public and animal control agencies. Veterinarian Dr. Shereen Burton manages the medical treatments for all animals brought into the shelter, and performs emergency medical procedures when needed. She diagnoses and treats both shelter animals and pets, and administers medications and vaccines.

The foundation strives to eliminate pet overpopulation, and Dr. Burton helps further this cause by performing high-volume spay and neuter surgeries for animals housed in the shelter. She is also called on to perform special surgical procedures, such as soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. In the case of surgery, she is attentive to patients throughout the process, conducting preoperative physical exams, managing postoperative care, and distributing perioperative medications. Dr. Burton is recognized amongst her peers for her kind-hearted nature — an attribute that makes her a favorite with pets and their owners alike.

In addition to her work with The Animal Foundation, Dr. Burton has been serving the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps. After taking an oath in April of 2010, the Veterinary Corps has become a prominent part of her life.

Fascinated with biology and medicine since childhood and driven by a love for animals, Dr. Burton seemed a natural fit for a career in veterinary medicine. She credits her success thus far to familial support and looks forward to growing professionally in the coming years.

Dr. Burton earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2007 from Ross University and a Master of Science in 2004 from California State University, Chico. Her professional affiliations include the American Veterinary Medical Association and Phi Sigma Sigma. When Dr. Burton finds time to do relief work, she assists the Spay & Neuter Center of Southern Nevada.
