Dr. Rees founded the Auckland Plastic Surgical Centre in 1996. He is a Cosmetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgeon who has been in private practice since 1988. Dr. Rees possesses extensive expertise in cosmetic facial, abdominal and breast surgeries, liposculpture, skin cancer, cleft lip and palate, cranio maxillo facial, microvascular and hand surgery. Dedicated to helping children born with facial deformities, Martin also undertakes annual, voluntary "surgical missions" with the charitable Interplast organization, providing free reconstructive treatment to needy children with facial clefts, burns and hand abnormalities in Asia and the Pacific.

During his collegiate career, Dr. Rees graduated from Otago Medical School in 1972 with a Bachelor in Medicine and Plastic Surgery. He went on to receive his plastic surgical training with Sir William Manchester at Middlemore Hospital in 1977 and later passed Part II in 1979. After that, Dr. Rees received advanced specialty training in Britain and Australia where he developed and published new techniques for studying vascular anatomy and super-specialized in cleft/ cranio-facial/ head and neck surgery and microvascular free scalp reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Rees is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He also serves as President of the New Zealand Foundation for Cosmetic Plastic Surgery and Part President of the ANZ Society of Cranio-Maxillo Facial Surgeons. In addition, Dr. Rees is a member of the International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Australasian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Asia Pacific Cranio-Maxillo Facial Surgeons, Royal Australasian Court of Examiners, New Zealand Association of Plastic Surgeons, and the Founding Member of the Cranio Facial Foundation.
